Trans cafe employee fired after kicking out, insulting conservative customer

A transgender coffee shop employee in Nebraska was reportedly fired after kicking out a conservative customer, telling the customer she “should get the fuck out and never come back.”

The incident took place at Cultiva Espresso & Crepes in Lincoln, Nebraska on Wednesday, where transgender employee Natalie Weiss confronted and kicked out Marilyn Synek, who works at the local Nebraska Family Alliance — a pro-life lobbyist group which has played a role in stopping legislation that Weiss has backed that would’ve protected the LGBT community.

The Nebraska Family Alliance’s website states that they “support efforts to protect the lives of the unborn and oppose efforts to end the lives of the disabled and elderly. Each human life must also be protected and respected in scientific research.”

“I thought I recognized you,” Weiss reportedly told Synek on Wednesday. “You should get the fuck out and never come back.”

“Right there, sitting there was the face of an organization that has been the source of a great deal of personal stress,” Weiss said after seeing Synek in the coffee shop, according to NBC News.

She also called Synek “bigoted trash” and told her she was not “fucking wanted” at the coffee shop.

Just haf an hour after the incident, the owner of the coffee shop fired Weiss, calling event “regrettable … on so many levels.”

“Groups like the Nebraska Family Alliance pose a direct threat to her life and to the entire LGBT community.” He added, “We responded as we would with any other staff member, apologized as we would to any non-disruptive guest, and later attempted to defuse public anger and threats with our social media post,” said owner Jason Anderson.

In a statement to the Washington Examiner Thursday, Synek described how the incident unfolded.

“I went into [Cultiva Espresso & Crepes] for breakfast like I do once a week,” Synek, 23, told the Washington Examiner on Thursday. “An employee approached me, called me by name, and started yelling profanities at me. [The employee] asked me to leave and informed me that if I tried to come back, I would be denied service because of my ‘bigoted’ views.”

Synek remembered Weiss telling her, “You are f–king bigoted trash, and we do not want you in our restaurant. Over 80% of the people who work here are queer. You are not f–king wanted in our restaurant, so get out and don’t come back!”
