Joe Crowley, who lost to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in the Democratic primary campaign, decided against using damaging information on the now-congresswoman, reported The Daily Caller.
“Crowley had plenty of fodder he could’ve used against Ocasio-Cortez, but his top New York campaign operatives decided to take the punches and not hit back,” wrote Politico reporters Jake Sherman and Anna Palmer in their new book “The Hill to Die On.”
Reasons: Crowley reportedly didn’t want to look weak in a race against an inexperienced competitor, was confident that he would win, and thought that playing dirty was unfair.
The information: Crowley aides knew about questionable financing practices of Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign before they were made public. A federal complaint has been filed against Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff for using two affiliated political action committees to funnel funds into a liability company in an effort to sidestep campaign finance laws.
